Willow Koerber's Recap From the Road
Willow Koerber is part of the Subaru-Gary Fisher Mountain Bike Team.
This season she's been on a tear. She's been on multiple World Cup
podiums and domestic NMBS podiums.
Willow just recently came off a 4th place finish at the World Cup in
St. Felician, Canada. What follows is Willow's recap of the summer to
date:
This summer is flying by. It seems like they go faster every year, so
it is nice to take the opportunity to stop and enjoy it while you can.
I made the decision to stay in Mt. St. Anne after the World Cup instead
of flying home to Asheville. It seemed like the smartest thing to do
for recovery, relaxation and minimal travel time to the next World Cup
in St. Felician.
I was tired from giving it my all in the World Cup, but already looking
forward to racing again in St. Felician. After finishing 7th, I was
motivated to get back on the podium the next weekend.
It seems I made the perfect choice, because our week was full of rest,
great team dinners and lots of massage. I also rode some very sweet
trails around the venue and enjoyed dips in the "secret" swimming hole
only a short walk from the condo.
We had a team swimming hole excursion one night after a delicious
dinner. We gathered some flashlights and headed out for a nice evening
dip. The water was freezing, but it made the legs feel great!
I even went go-carting with lots of competitive boys and managed to do
just fine. Team Gary-Fisher put up quite a showing against our
neighbors "The Germans."
I spent lots of time drinking apple cider vinegar and taking
supplements. I even shared some of my secrets with my teammates Sam and
Dror. Every little trick helps, and I have a lot up my sleeve! It was a
pleasure to pass on some knowledge. It is a running joke on our team
that "Willows lotions and potions" should be the name of my website.
On Thursday we drove to St. Felician. The scenery was lovely and the
journey was easy. We arrived with fresh legs and rejuvenated spirits,
ready to race again. I felt great on Sunday and rode to 4th place,
despite a flat tire early on in lap two. I am now enjoying a few weeks
away from the races. See you in Mt. Snow!
