Subaru-Gary Fisher MTB Team All Over the Podium at Mt Snow

This past weekend was the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships at Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vermont. Mount Snow has played host to many mountain bike events over the years, however, this was the first time Mt Snow was the site of the national championship event.

Ryan Trebon (Kona) and Georgia Gould (Luna) were defending champions. However, each faced a field of competitors that had a handful of riders that could take the win. A rain storm had left the course a muddy, technical course that demanded all the technical prowess the riders could muster.

On the women’s side, Willow Koerber kept the momentum from her World Cup podiums going. Early on, Willow separated herself from the pack with the hard-charging lead group of three riders. After three muddy laps, Willow finished in third place.

Teammate Heather Irmiger worked her way through the crowd and finished in fourth place right behind Willow to help stack the podium with Subaru-Gary Fisher riders.

Willow topped over her weekend in Vermont with a second place finish in the short track competition as well.

On the men’s side, both Jeremy Horgan-Kobleski and Sam Schultz had a strong showing and placed themselves on the podium. On the muddy course that saw most of the riders running up some of the climbs, JHK managed hang on and use his power and technical skills to ride to a fourth place finish.

Sam Schultz was looking to defend his Under 23 National Title at Mount Snow. The Missoula native had been battling illness prior to this race and was looking for strong performance. Sam didn’t show any affects of the nagging illness during the race. He was at the front nearly the entire time. However, on the last lap, cramps set in, but Sam managed to hang onto second place.
