Jay Henry of Tokyo Joe's Wins Marathon National Championships

Jay Henry rides for Tokyo Joe's Mountain Bike Team. It's a powerhouse team based out of the Rockies. Tokyo Joe's is also sponsored by and riding Gary Fisher Bikes.

Current Subaru-Gary Fisher rider, Heather Irmiger, also rode for the team prior to making the jump over to Subaru-Gary Fisher. Point being, some of the best riders can be found on Tokyo Joe's team.

This past 4th of July, Jay Henry competed in the annual Firecracker 50 which also doubled as the US Marathon National Championships. Going against the nation's best, Jay Henry bested them all and took the title.

What follows is Jay's recap from the race:

Winning the Stars and Stripes on the 4th of July, what better way to celebrate the birthday of our nation. After three previous attempts I was finally able to don the US Marathon National Championship Jersey after winning the epic Fire Cracker 50 in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado.

Aboard my Gary Fisher Big Sur I kept the air in my tires upon the insanely rocky trails of the 25 mile loop and snuck in ahead of current Cross Country National Champion Ryan Trebon.

The Big Sur went up hill like a mountain goat which was exactly what I needed on a high altitude course that climbed almost 11,000 vertical feet. Although the race was well under four hours, the steep rocky climbs of the second lap seemed to last several lifetimes making it a deceptively difficult marathon. Crossing the finish line as the National Champion, however, made every painful pedal stroke worth it.
