Subaru-Gary Fisher Mountain Bike Team Announces 2007 Roster

In 2007 the Subaru-Gary Fisher team will be returning the core of its team including Jeremy Horgan Kobelski, Nat Ross, Heather Irmiger, Willow Koerber, Jenny Copnall, Ken Onodera, Asa Erlandsson, and Dror Pekatch. Joining the Subaru-Gary Fisher team for 2007 will be current U23 US champ, Sam Schultz, and Great Britain’s Phil Spencer.

The 2007 team will be looking to build on the success of 2006. This past year Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski captured the overall NMBS cross country title and Nat Ross pulled in the overall National Point Series 24 hour solo title. On the European side, Jenny Copnall won the British women’s overall cross country title and Asa Erlandsson took the Swedish women’s overall marathon win.

A critical element of any team is the sponsors. Subaru of America returns for their seventh year as title sponsor. SRAM, RockShox, Avid, Bontrager, Crank Brothers, Stronglight, and Genuine Innovations equip the team. Nike Cycling provides all of the team clothing and shoes, 661 provides protective gear. Pedros helps to keep the bikes clean and lubed. Brave Solider helps with trail rash and skincare. Cane Creek will be providing headsets for the team. Sara SuperSocks keeps the team in socks. Light and Motion will be keeping the trail lit. And Yakima equips all of the team Subaru’s with racks.

The also team welcomes new sponsors for 2007. GU and GU2O, will be fueling the Subaru-Gary Fisher team. Also new this year, the team will be running Bontrager tires along with their already familiar Bontrager wheels and components

The 2007 Subaru-Gary Fisher team has two categories: National Team and Global Team.

The National Team will race largely in North America with a focus on the NMBS events, World Cups, premier domestic events, and select international races.

Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski
JHK is the most prolific American mountain bike racer of the last decade. He is a 4 time National Champion. In 2006, JHK was the overall National Mountain Bike Series leader and also finished as the top overall American in the World Cup races. His resume also includes three short track National Championships. Before turning pro in 2000 he was 4-time Collegiate National Champion and 2-time Collegiate Cyclist of the Year. He enters the 2007 season anxious to defend his US National Champion’s jersey, continue to podium on the global stage, and keep an eye on qualifying for the 2008 Olympics.

Heather Irmiger
2006 saw Heather continuing her climb up the ranks and firmly plant herself as one of the handful of elite racers. She finished second overall in the NMBS Series that included a first place finish at Brian Head for a second straight year and a first at Deer Valley. The former Collegiate National Champion will be racing the NMBS events, World Cup races, and also keeping her eye on an Olympic roster spot for 2008.

Willow Koerber
Willow is one of the most recognizable professionals in mountain biking. Over her years as a professional she has built a solid fan base because of her refined style, approachability and winning ways. Willow first appeared on the national scene while racing at the collegiate level, where she won three Collegiate National Championships. In 2006, Willow had a consistently strong year. She finished as the second overall American at World Cup events and finished fifth in the overall NMBS standings.

Sam Schultz
As the current US Under 23 National Champion, Sam is one of the sports rising stars and the newest National team member. The Missoula, MT, native lives and trains in Colorado Springs. In 2006, he finished 10th overall on the NMBS XC Series and finished 8th overall on the short track course. At Sea Otter, Sam had an 11th overall finish that included a 3rd place finish in time trials. In 2007 Sam will be racing the NMBS events, select World Cup events, the PanAm Championships in Venezuala, and looking to defend his U23 title stateside, but also looking to finish fast at the U23 World Championships.

Nat Ross
2006 was a full and successful year for the longest standing member of the Subaru-Gary Fisher team. The endurance rider was the 2006 24 Hour National Point Series champion. That included wins at the 24 Hours of Moab, Landahl, and Temecula. In between all the 24 hour races Nat found time to compete in Race Across America (RAAM). His consistent podium finishes along with his affable personality have made Nat a crowd favorite wherever he travels. For 2007 the Colorado native will continue to focus on 24 hour races and repeating as the Series leader.

Athletes on the Global Team will join the team at select events. Subaru-Gary Fisher strives to work with athletes from around the world as they make their way to the top of the sport.

Jenny Copnall
Jenny returns to Subaru-Gary Fisher for her fourth season. She dominates the UK women’s mountain bike scene. In 2006, Jenny finished as the British National XC Champion, British National Marathon Champion, British National Points Series Champion and ranked first in the British National Rankings. She has raced since 1996 and has steadily progressed to her current place on one of the World’s top trade teams. Jenny will continue to race an aggressive schedule in her native UK and compete in select World Cup events.

Phil Spencer
The 23 year old British native joins Subaru-Gary Fisher for his first season. The young Brit is currently the third-ranked British cross-country racer on the UCI circuit. In 2007, Phil will be competing on the British scene and also the UCI circuit.

Ken Onodera
The 21 year old professional from Japan is two time All Japan National Champion and winner of the All Asia Championship in 2004. Ken has a very easy going attitude which belies his speed and aggression when racing his bike.

Asa Erlandsson
Asa has ridden for Gary Fisher Bicycles for the last four years, competing in cross country and marathon events. The Swedish native is the 2006 National Swedish Marathon Champion. In 2007 she’ll be competing regionally with select international travel.

Dror Pekatch
Dror is one of Israel’s most successful international mountain bike professionals. He has consistently represented Gary Fisher well on the race course, and will be representing Gary Fisher again in 2007.
